Comparison

Centercode vs. UserTesting

UserTesting invites people to get paid to test. Centercode invites them to shape what you build.

Centercode’s UserVolley runs quick tests too, with your own people or AI participants. Then it keeps going: phased programs, evergreen communities with no end date, and your own agent to help run any of them.

We make UserVolley. Every feature answer about UserTesting comes from its public pages, with the date shown, and we will share the page behind any of them.

What AI changed

Building got easy. Two things didn’t change.

You can build almost anything now, and fast. You still have to build the right thing, and it still has to work. Both just got harder, with less time to find out.

Build what matters

Know what your people need, before and while you build.

CentercodeBuilt for this

Hear from your own people, and turn what they say into insights ranked by impact before and while you build.

UserTestingBuilt for this

This is its core: recorded tests and interviews that show how people react to what you are building.

Know it works

Know it holds up in real hands before your customers find out.

CentercodeBuilt for this

Run betas, collect bug reports, and put connected products in real homes for weeks, all in the same program.

UserTesting

It shows where people struggle in a test. We found no built-in tool for phased programs or a bug report form, and its help center says to send physical products only if they are already on the market.

What UserTesting is built for comes from its own public pages, read on October 30, 2026.

The big difference

Why do people take part in your study?

Centercode

People invited to help shape what you build.

Your community is invited to take part for early access, a real say in what gets built, and a place to belong. Rewards are a thank-you, not the pitch. Their own words are kept as the evidence on the insights they raise, and they can follow an insight to hear when it moves.

UserTesting

People invited to get paid to test.

UserTesting’s homepage has a “Get Paid to Test” link for participants. The hover text on that link reads “For participants and side hustles” on desktop. Its sign-up page invites people to try “the ultimate side hustle” and boost their monthly income, and also says participants help brands improve their products.

UserTesting’s words are from its public pages, read on October 30, 2026.

In our own research, participants who said the reward was their reason for taking part typically did the bare minimum, and were much poorer performers than people who joined for virtually any other reason. We lead with what people get to shape and treat rewards as a thank-you. We have not studied UserTesting’s participants.

Managed services

Want a team to run it for you?

Centercode

Our team can run the whole thing.

Our in-house team can take your project from planning to wrap-up. They are US-based Centercode employees who have run betas, product tests, and research programs for years. You watch it all happen in your own program, and everything we build stays with you.

  • Plans the project and builds its surveys, tasks, and screeners
  • Recruits, screens, and looks after your participants
  • Runs it day to day and keeps people engaged
  • Reviews and curates the feedback, and is accountable for every result
  • Coordinates rewards, codes, and shipments
  • Gets product to participants and manages returns
  • One project, or an annual program across releases

Rewards and postage bill to your program’s own connected accounts, with no markup. When our team handles custom logistics for physical products, that is quoted for each program. We take on whole projects. The one task we also take inside a project you run yourself is choosing the participants.

UserTesting

A research team that runs studies for you.

Professional Services is UserTesting’s managed offering. Its Insights Services researchers run studies on your behalf, and an Unlimited option puts a dedicated team on several projects at once, as an extension of your team.

  • Study design, screeners, and scripts
  • Recruiting, including hard-to-reach audiences through partner networks
  • Methods such as benchmarks, tree tests, card sorts, interviews, and surveys
  • Analysis, a final report, and a read-out of recommendations
  • Consulting and onboarding help for your own team

For physical products, its help center says you ship the product yourself and carry the risk if it is lost or broken, tells you to expect participants to keep what you send, and says to send products only if they are already on the market. It says its Professional Services team can help with shipping, reminder emails, and coordinating with participants, without saying whether that covers sending units or collecting returns. Services are scoped and quoted for each project, and its top plan includes some.

UserTesting’s services are described from its public pages and help center, read on October 30, 2026.

Strengths

What each one does well.

What Centercode does well

  • A global community, and your own customers

Betabound, our global tester community, can bring in more people when you need them, matched and screened first. AI translates responses and transcripts, not in real time, into the languages your edition includes. Bring your own customers in by link, email list, shared key, or referral, and keep them as a community that belongs to your program, with screening applications that can turn people away and quotas for each audience. AI participants can run when you send them, and real people stay the source of truth.

  • Recorded sessions, surveys, and trade-off studies

Participants record camera, screen, or both while they think aloud, with transcripts, AI summaries and ranked highlights, and highlight reels you approve and share as video. Surveys and trade-off studies run with the same people, showing how much each feature and price sways a choice, and an engagement grade and predicted star rating show how the program is doing.

  • Interviews, live or with an AI moderator

Live interviews come with booking, reminders, and observers. You host the call on your own meeting link and attach the recording, which is transcribed and, in a project, turned into insights. Or an AI moderator can run an interview without you: participants answer by speaking or typing, it follows up on what they say, and it returns a transcript, a summary, and findings for each objective. Participants are told it is an AI.

  • Then know it works

Run the beta that shows it holds up, collect bug reports as people use your product, and ship kits, even for products not on the market yet, with carrier tracking and optional return labels. Matching feedback merges into one insight, ranked by impact, and flows to Jira, Linear, and Slack. Your own agent helps run the project, and its messages to participants, and any rewards or shipments it hands out, wait for an owner to approve them.

What UserTesting does well

  • A large ready-made panel

UserTesting says its panel has millions of people in 34 countries that it recruits and pays, with filters for age, job role, and device plus your own screener questions. It suits teams who would rather UserTesting handle the payments than fund rewards themselves.

  • A Figma plugin for design teams

UserTesting says designers can launch a test from a prototype and review results inside Figma, and it lists card sorting, tree testing, and benchmark scores on some plans or as paid add-ons. It suits design teams who work mostly in Figma and want those methods beside their tests.

  • Live interviews built in

UserTesting says live video conversations with screen sharing, on desktop and mobile, come with higher plans, and that recorded sessions turn into clips you can share by link, email, or Slack. It suits teams who run live interviews often and want the call, the recording, and the clips in one tool.

Choosing

Which one fits you?

Choose UserTesting if…

  • You want UserTesting to recruit and pay the people who take part, instead of funding rewards from your own reward account.
  • Your design team wants to launch tests from inside Figma and review results there, or wants card sorting and tree testing built in.
  • You run live interviews often and want the video call, screen sharing, and recording built into the tool, instead of on your own meeting link.
  • You need to reach people in many countries, which UserTesting says its panel covers. Our translation covers only the languages your edition includes.
  • You only need live interviews and design critiques, and nothing beyond them: no betas, no bug reports, no products to ship.

Choose Centercode if…

  • You want recorded sessions, surveys, and interviews, run live on your own meeting link or by an AI moderator, from your own customers or Betabound, our global tester community, with rewards as a thank-you.
  • You want a community of your own people that stays with you across every project, with AI participants alongside real people when you need more.
  • You run betas, phased programs, or communities with no end date, and want issues reported as people use the product, ranked by impact, and sent to Jira and Linear.
  • You build connected or physical products, and want to ship them to participants, track them, and follow along for weeks, even before they are on the market.

Questions

What people ask us.

Can you use Centercode alongside UserTesting?

Yes. You can run a UserVolley project next to whatever you use today, and what you learn flows into Jira, Linear, Slack, and your other tools.

Can Centercode run quick tests too?

Yes. A one-shot project is built for one clear question, such as a survey or a trade-off study. Start it from a blueprint and run it with your own members, AI participants, or people from Betabound, our global tester community, who are matched and screened first. Written answers can feed the same insights as everything else, and trade-off results sit in their own analysis beside them. Trade-off studies run in one of our research studios, which come in set numbers with each edition. Your next project can be a longer program or a community, in the same place.

Where do Centercode’s participants come from?

Your own team and customers, your wider market, or Betabound, our global tester community. The community you build stays with your program across every project.

Are Centercode’s participants paid?

That is up to each company. We invite people with early access, a real say in what gets built, a community, and recognition. Companies can thank them with rewards, such as gift cards, PayPal, or Venmo, that the company funds. Rewards are a thank-you, not the pitch. Participants never pay to take part.

What did your research find about participants who join for the reward?

In our own research, participants who said the reward was their reason for taking part typically did the bare minimum, and were much poorer performers than people who joined for virtually any other reason. So we do not lead with rewards when we invite people. We have not studied UserTesting’s participants.

How was this comparison made?

We read UserTesting’s public pages, help center, and announcements, then looked a second time for anything we had marked as missing. Every feature answer about UserTesting comes from a public page. The review themes are paraphrased from public customer reviews, and the finding about reward-driven participants is from our own research, not from a public page. Ask us for the page behind any feature answer.

What reviewers say

Why some teams look for a UserTesting alternative.

Professional testers

Some reviewers say people in the panel take part mainly for the payment, know usability patterns too well, and do not look like your customers.

Your own customers take more work

A few reviewers say bringing in your own customers takes more work than using the panel, and that the saved private panel is clunky to manage.

Price, seats, and credits

Cost is one of the most common complaints. Some plans charge for each seat, and reviewers say credit use is hard to predict.

Light on diary studies and deeper research

A few reviewers say it falls short for diary studies and deeper, exploratory research.

Analysis takes time

Many reviewers want better analysis. Watching sessions, building highlight reels, and exporting results take time, and some say the AI summaries miss relevant feedback.

People who misstate who they are

Reviewers report people misstating their background or location to get into studies, and one recent review mentions survey answers that seem AI-generated. UserTesting’s own guidance acknowledges the first problem. Ask any vendor, us included, how they check.

Paraphrased from public customer reviews, read on October 30, 2026. These are downsides reviewers raised, not a ranking of how many did.
