Comparison

Centercode vs. Dscout

Dscout invites people to turn their opinions into cash. Centercode invites them to shape what you build.

Dscout is built for studies: diaries, field studies, interviews, and tests. Centercode’s UserVolley runs studies too, then keeps going with betas, evergreen communities with no end date, physical products shipped and tracked, and your own agent to help run any of them.

We make UserVolley. Every feature answer about Dscout comes from its public pages, with the date shown, and we will share the page behind any of them.

What AI changed

Building got easy. Two things didn’t change.

You can build almost anything now, and fast. You still have to build the right thing, and it still has to work. Both just got harder, with less time to find out.

Build what matters

Know what your people need, before and while you build.

CentercodeBuilt for this

Hear from your own people, and turn what they say into insights ranked by impact before and while you build.

DscoutBuilt for this

This is its core: diaries, field studies, and interviews that show what people do and need in their own lives.

Know it works

Know it holds up in real hands before your customers find out.

CentercodeBuilt for this

Run betas, collect bug reports, and put connected products in real homes for weeks, all in the same program.

Dscout

Diary-style studies can surface problems over days or weeks. We found no built-in beta program, bug report form, or shipping tools.

What Dscout is built for comes from its own public pages, read on October 30, 2026.

The big difference

Why do people take part in your study?

Centercode

People invited to help shape what you build.

Your community is invited to take part for early access, a real say in what gets built, and a place to belong. Rewards are a thank-you, not the pitch. Their own words are kept as the evidence on the insights they raise, and they can follow an insight to hear when it moves.

Dscout

People invited to get paid for their opinions.

Dscout’s site has a “Get paid to test” button for participants. It leads to a join page headed “Turn your opinions into cash”. The same page has a section called “Make a real impact” and says feedback could shape the prototypes and products of the brands people test for. It also says people apply for projects and the researcher selects who takes part. This is about Dscout’s own Scout Panel, the pool of participants it calls Scouts. People you bring are invited by you.

Dscout’s words are from its public pages, read on October 30, 2026.

In our own research, participants who said the reward was their reason for taking part typically did the bare minimum, and were much poorer performers than people who joined for virtually any other reason. We lead with what people get to shape and treat rewards as a thank-you. We have not studied Dscout’s Scouts.

Centercode’s answers describe UserVolley. Dscout’s answers were read from public information on October 30, 2026, and a No means we found nothing offering it. Our research studios (video, sessions, AI interviews, and trade-off studies) come in set numbers with each edition.

Managed services

Want a team to run it for you?

Centercode

Our team can run the whole thing.

Our in-house team can take your project from planning to wrap-up. They are US-based Centercode employees who have run betas, product tests, and research programs for years. You watch it all happen in your own program, and everything we build stays with you.

  • Plans the project and builds its surveys, tasks, and screeners
  • Recruits, screens, and looks after your participants
  • Runs it day to day and keeps people engaged
  • Reviews and curates the feedback, and is accountable for every result
  • Coordinates rewards, codes, and shipments
  • Gets product to participants and manages returns
  • One project, or an annual program across releases

Rewards and postage bill to your program’s own connected accounts, with no markup. When our team handles custom logistics for physical products, that is quoted for each program. We take on whole projects. The one task we also take inside a project you run yourself is choosing the participants.

Dscout

Research advisors who work beside your team.

Dscout calls itself fully self-service, and says every account is paired with a Research Advisor. Its Select plan lists project design and delivery services on up to three projects at once, and Enterprise on up to five, without saying what those services include.

  • Strategy sessions and project feedback, plus a review of your screener or study before it launches
  • An advisor and account manager who, Dscout says, help with design, programming, onboarding, fieldwork management, and incentive processing
  • Recruiting from its Scout Panel, partner panels, or your own people
  • Consent forms and NDAs, uploaded by your account manager on plans that include them
  • Advice on analysis, while its own tools make the summaries, themes, and highlight reels

For physical products, its Verizon case study says the customer shipped the product to participants. Its pricing page used to list product shipping under Enterprise support, without saying what it covered, and the current page does not show it. We found no feature in its help center for addresses, tracking, or returns. We found no page saying its team moderates interviews for you, and the one page we found where its team runs a study and shares the results is a free five-person usability trial. Plans are subscriptions, quoted for each team.

Dscout’s services are described from its public pages and help center, read on October 30, 2026.

Strengths

What each one does well.

What Centercode does well

  • Weeks of real use, captured on video

Run a program over weeks, on fixed dates, or at each person’s own pace. Participants record camera, screen, or both while they work, and report issues, ideas, and praise as they go. They can follow the program and share feedback from a phone’s browser. Transcripts, AI summaries, and highlights wait for you.

  • Interviews and surveys, with an AI moderator

Participants answer an AI moderator by speaking or typing. It follows up on what they say and returns a transcript, a summary, and findings for each objective. Surveys and trade-off studies run with the same people, and live interviews come with booking, reminders, and observers, hosted on your own meeting link.

  • Recruiting and guardrails, built in

Bring your own customers in by link, email list, shared key, or referral and keep them as a community across every project, or draw on Betabound, our global tester community, and screen with disqualifiers and quotas. Roles and audit logs cover each program and project, each project chooses who sees participants’ names and emails, and single sign-on and automatic user setup (SCIM) come with higher editions.

  • Then know it works

Run the beta that shows it holds up, collect bug reports as people use your product, and ship kits for field trials in real homes, with carrier tracking, optional return labels, and a signed NDA first when you need one. Matching feedback merges into one insight, ranked by impact, and flows to Jira, Linear, and Slack, with your own agent to help run the project.

What Dscout does well

  • Real moments, captured on phones

Dscout says its diary and field studies follow people through their day, with video, photos, and short answers captured on their phones, for as long as a year. It suits teams who want to see everyday life as it happens, from the person’s own phone.

  • Interviews with or without a moderator

Dscout says you can host live interviews on its own platform, with hidden observers and automatic transcripts, or let an AI moderator run them in 25 or more languages. It suits teams who run live interviews often and want to host and record them in the same place.

  • Recruiting and security

Dscout says its partner panels add more than 3 million people beyond its own Scout Panel, and that its trust center lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HITRUST, and HIPAA. It suits teams who recruit a lot from outside their own customers, or whose security review asks for named certifications.

Choosing

Which one fits you?

Choose Dscout if…

  • You run live interviews often and want them hosted and recorded on its own platform, rather than on a meeting link of your own.
  • You want diary studies built around people’s phones, to capture everyday moments as they happen.
  • You want Dscout to handle participant payments for you, instead of funding rewards from your own reward account.
  • You need to reach people in many countries and languages. Dscout says its partner panels reach many countries and its AI moderator runs interviews in many languages, on the plans and add-ons that include them.
  • You only need diary and interview studies, and nothing beyond them: no betas, no bug reports, no products to ship.

Choose Centercode if…

  • You want programs that run for weeks, video from your participants, and interviews with an AI moderator, and you also want to know whether what you built holds up.
  • You want people invited to help shape what you build, from your own customers or Betabound, our global tester community, kept as a community across every project, with rewards as a thank-you.
  • You run betas or early-access programs, and want issues reported as people use your product, ranked by impact and sent to Jira and Linear.
  • You build connected or physical products that need to be shipped, tracked, and returned, with your own agent to help run the project.

Questions

What people ask us.

Can you use Centercode alongside Dscout?

Yes. You can run a UserVolley project next to whatever you use today, and what you learn flows into Jira, Linear, Slack, and your other tools.

Can Centercode run quick tests too?

Yes. A one-shot project is built for one clear question, such as a survey or a trade-off study. Start it from a blueprint and run it with your own members, AI participants, or people from Betabound, our global tester community, who are matched and screened first. Written answers can feed the same insights as everything else, and trade-off results sit in their own analysis beside them. Trade-off studies run in one of our research studios, which come in set numbers with each edition. Your next project can be a longer program or a community, in the same place.

Where do Centercode’s participants come from?

Your own team and customers, your wider market, or Betabound, our global tester community. The community you build stays with your program across every project.

Are Centercode’s participants paid?

That is up to each company. We invite people with early access, a real say in what gets built, a community, and recognition. Companies can thank them with rewards, such as gift cards, PayPal, or Venmo, that the company funds. Rewards are a thank-you, not the pitch. Participants never pay to take part.

What did your research find about participants who join for the reward?

In our own research, participants who said the reward was their reason for taking part typically did the bare minimum, and were much poorer performers than people who joined for virtually any other reason. So we do not lead with rewards when we invite people. We have not studied Dscout’s Scouts.

Does Centercode do diary studies and interviews like Dscout?

Partly. Participants can record camera, screen, or both while they work, answer an AI moderator by speaking or typing, and report issues and ideas as they go, and programs can run for weeks. UserVolley is a web app that also works in a phone’s browser, so it is not built around capturing moments on a phone the way Dscout is. Live interviews run on your own meeting link, with booking, reminders, and observers built in.

How was this comparison made?

We read Dscout’s public pages, help center, and announcements, then looked a second time for anything we had marked as missing. Every feature answer about Dscout comes from a public page. The review themes are paraphrased from public customer reviews, and the finding about reward-driven participants is from our own research, not from a public page. Ask us for the page behind any feature answer.

What reviewers say

Why some teams look for a Dscout alternative.

Methods beyond its core

Some reviewers say it is thinner outside diary studies and video, for example surveys with advanced logic, focus groups, and linking other research tools.

Hard-to-find audiences

Some reviewers say niche and business audiences, children, and people outside North America are harder to find in its own pool than everyday consumers. Dscout says partner panels and your own participants can fill some of those gaps.

Analysis effort

Some reviewers say making sense of video and open answers takes a lot of manual effort, from building clips to matching answers to the right participant, and they want more help from its AI tools. Dscout replied to one of them that its AI Summaries now cover that, and some recent reviewers praise its AI.

Cost and credits

Some reviewers say cost is high, including for survey-style work, and that credits are hard to plan around. One review site’s summary of its reviews suggests trying it on one project before committing.

Review before launch

Some reviewers say screeners and study plans go through a review before launch, which can add a day or two when answers are needed fast. Dscout says the review is optional in many cases.

Getting started

Some reviewers say onboarding takes time and settings can be hard to find, though several add that it is easy once you know your way around.
